2016 - Hongkong and Cebu (Philippines)

Travelogue

This year our travel planning focused to get to know new countries and dive spots.

The decision was to go to Cebu/Philippines. But before still a 3-days stay in Hongkong to explore more points of interests and to meet our lovely colleagues from our company office.

Of course we started again from our home airport

Frankfurt to destination Hongkong by using Cathey-Pacific Airline. Arrival in the early morning and taking the limousine service (with WLAN connection in the car!) to our hotel. We had booked the pentahotel in Kowloon, a nice 4* Boutiquehotel with good connection to the MTR, the subway of Hongkong.

On the first evening we visited the ELEMENTS Shopping Center and the Temple Street Night Market in Yau Ma Tei district, there we took a small snack with Wan Tan soup and shrimps and a noodle soup with pork curry. Back to the hotel by using the very famous Nathan Road and the next MTR station.

2. day - first with the hotel shuttle to direction Tsim Sha Tsui district, then a short walk to the ferry station and crossing the Victoria Harbour to Hongkong Island. There we made a roundtrip with the green Big Bus Line (Hop on/Hop off) up to Stanley and Aberdeen. A really nice trip through the street canyons of Hongkong Island, past the lower terminus of the Peak Tram and the racecourse, then along the coastline with a beautiful view to the South China Sea via Repulse Bay to Stanley, a small artists village with some studios, where any kind of pictures are offered.

At the continuation of the journey we stopped in Aberdeen to make a short ride with a typical Sampan. This is a small and old houseboat and is purely handled by old chinese women. Very interesting as well is the very big Jumbo Floating Restaurant, which is located in the harbour and attracts many visitors every day. The Restaurant should have approx. 2000 seats, looks really impressive at the front , but backside unsightly because of extension with the kitchen area - ugly as the night.

At the evening we still meet our colleagues Angela and Joyce for dinner. This time we decided to go to the "Nomads" Restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui district with Mongolian Buffet. It was again a nice and enjoyable evening with both.

3. day - again with our hotel shuttle to Tsim Sha Tsui into the K11 Shopping Center and then cross over to Hongkong Island. There we took the typical double-deck tram to the Western Market and after then we visited the Man-Mo Temple.

Therewith the time in Hongkong was coming to the end.

Further on next day we traveled from Hongkong to destination Cebu on the Philippines again with Cathey-Pacific.

The transfer from the Airport to our Dolphin House Resort, SPA, Diving in Moalboal took about 3 hours and was without problems despite of the chaotic traffic on the island.

We found a really small paradies. A well maintained facility, specious accommodation (we booked a De Luxe Bungalow), a TOP-Dive center and 1.class catering. Not only the warmly welcome with complementary drink and a nice little surprise gift makes us positive impressed. Rudy, the owner of this beautiful resort and his crew, starting with Eric from the front desk, the lovely girls at the Bar and in the Restaurant and last but not least Peter as Manager of the dive center have ultimately contributed, that we felt very comfortable. Overall we stayed there for 10 days. Of course some fascinating boat dives at the famous dive spots of this coastline could not be missed. Every day there was much to see in the wonderful underwater world. For example turtles, who stay in the reefs and can be admire very close.

We especially liked the fact that the resort is managed very environment-friendly. Plastic waste is avoided and aluminium bottles will be provided to the guests against a small amount. The bottles can be filled free of charge at any time.

To be mentioned is also that the dive center is managed according to economic aspects. Owner Rudy reported (scientific proven) that the house reef belongs to the highest biodiversity in the South East Asia region! For example feeding of wale sharks will be completely rejected. That's right!

It's a pity, the time was running to fast. Our flight back home was exhausting and felt extremely long.

A return is still not excluded.

Also on this trip we have made many pictures. Additional you will find some new pictures of our dives at Cebu in the rubric HOBBIES.
