2011 - Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Khao Lak (Thailand)

Travelogue

Once again a very special holiday. After a year's break, we moved back into the distance.

Also this time our destination was Asia. We booked again with the same top level travel agency (Suntrips), we have taken the other trips to Asia.

First of all we used a scheduled flight with Malaysia Airlines to go to Kuala Lumpur. There we spent 3 nights in the 5* Crowne Plaza Mutiara Hotel directly in walking distance to the famous Petronas Towers.

In "KL", as residents affectionate call their city, the different cultures and religions are represented (Christians, Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus). The public transport network is very well prepared. It is easy to go quickly and with low budget to all places.

We have visited the most important points of interest of the town, among others the Petronas Towers, the Batu Caves at the periphery, the Menara Tower Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Shopping is probably one of the favorite activities of the residents. There are some big shopping centers, among other the Suria KLCC Shopping Mall located directly under the Twin Towers. In any case, a visit is worthwile.

From Kuala Lumpur another flight took us directly to Phuket/Thailand and by shuttle service next to our Hotel, the Le Meridien in Khao Lak. A really 5* dream Hotel. We felt very comfortable there.

But the special one of this holidays certainly was our scuba diving course with "Sea Bees" in Khao Lak, a local dive center with own office in our hotel. Theoretical lessions and first practice in the pool of the dive center, then using the dive boat "Stingray" for 2 days to go to the Similan Islands, a group of islands with a total number of 9 islands located approx. 60 km off the coast. In 2 dives at a time (in the morning and in the afternoon) we could get to know the beautiful underwater world of the Andamans Sea. With our "Open Water Diver" licence now we can pursue this fascinating sport worldwide. Our dive master Dirk made some underwater pictures. A selection you will find under the rubric HOBBIES.
