It should be a birthday surprise. And it worked perfectly. A long weekend with the whole family to Paris.
This time the journey took place by train, by regional train to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt with the ICE to Paris. Everything very relaxed.
Arrived in Paris, once we bought multi-day tickets for the Paris Metro. This means of transport is the easiest way to get around the city quickly and visit many points of interest.
Unfortunately also very old. So there are rarely escalators in the stations and climbing stairs can be very tedious.
First our tour took us to the Centre Pompidou, past the Stravinsky Fountain and the Town Hall to the Notre-Dame Cathedral. Here we noticed for the first time that many tourists visit the attractions and form long queues just to see the church from the inside. For us this was not an option, further on we went to the Ile de la Cite and then by metro into the district of Montparnasse. There is probably the only skyscraper in Paris, the Tour Montparnasse. The observation deck of the Tour Montparnasse in the 56th or 59th floor offers a unique panoramic view over Paris! What a view! 360 ° panoramic view over the French capital, in clear weather up to a radius of 40 km. For dinner we chose the Bistro L'estaminet very close to our hotel.
After a hearty breakfast the next morning at Bistro Chez Justine just around the corner from our hotel, we first visited the most famous cemetery in Paris, the Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise. Here are many famous people buried like the singer Edith Piaf, the composer Frederic Chopin or Jim Morrison, frontman of the band "The Doors" just to name a few. Then we went to the district of Montmartre to attractions such as the Basilica du Sacre-Coeur and the Moulin Rouge. Of course, a walk along the famous Avenue des Champs-Elysees from Arc de Triumphe to the Place de la Concorde was also a must. At the end of the day once again we used the observation deck of the Tour Montparnasse to enjoy the evening atmosphere and the sea of lights over Paris.
Day 3 began with the tour to Opera Garnier and the Big Bus sightseeing tour (Hop on / Hop off), a convenient way to get to know Parisian attractions. Since we had booked both available tours, the day passed quickly. For dinner we chose the Bistro Ober Mama and did not regret it. A relaxed atmosphere and good food, what more could you ask for.
On the last day we retourned to the Ile de la Cite, did a Batobus boat tour on the Seine river and stopped at the Eiffel Tower. In the afternoon we went back home with the ICE. It was a really nice trip with the whole family.
As always, we captured our impressions in pictures. Enjoy browsing.
